LIGNOTM
LIGNO™ is a proprietary pathway to purify to kraft lignin from black liquor (a by-product of the pulp and paper sector) which we believe will cost significantly less than traditional methods and have a less severe chemical consumption and impact on a pulp mills checmial balance.
Request a SampleDetergents
A key ingredient in detergents are surfactants. Surfactants are molecules which have one end attracted to water and one end that repels water. This helps dissolve oils and fats in water. Due to the unique surface charge of lignin and natural water repellence, our LIGNO™ 10 can provide the foundation for surfactant chemistry to produce biobased surfactants.

Plasticisers
Plasticisers are common chemicals used to make materials flexible and easier to work with. Plasticisers work by efficiently dispersing small molecules in mixtures. An effective plasticiser lowers costs and improves product performance. Due to the natural charge of lignin, LIGNO™ 10 can be used as a foundation for plasticiser chemistry to produce biobased plasticisers.

LIGNOTM 100
LIGNO™ 100 is our intermediate molecular weight lignin product. LIGNO™ 100 is effective in replacing phenol and UV adsorbent chemical additives.
Request a SampleWood Products
Phenolic resins are used extensively to produce wood products, such as LVL, MDF and plywood, providing strong adhesion between particles and veneers of wood. Phenolic resins are primarily made of two compounds, phenol and formaldehyde. LIGNO™ 100 is a validated phenol replacement, maintaining high levels of adhesion and shear strength, providing an economically viable alternative, in comparison to other commercial grades of lignin.

Electronics
Phenolic resins can provide strong heat, chemical and water resistance in coating of electronics for a variety of sectors such as automotive and aerospace. Our LIGNO™ 100 has proven performance in phenol replacement in phenolic resins

Foams
Ligno™ 100 is an effective lignin precursor to produce lignin-based polyols. Polyols can be used in the production of rigid and flexible foams and polyurethane coatings. Futurity Bio-Ventures is working with world leading foam manufacturers to develop advanced lignin-based foams for market.

Coatings
Polyurethane is used as a common coating to provide tough and chemical resistant finishes. LIGNO™ 100 can replace phenol which is commonly used as a hardener in epoxy and polyester coatings. Polyurethane coatings are commonly applied to wood, industrial piping, tank linings and other steel structures which require chemical and heat resistance.

Textiles
Ligno™ 100 is a natural polymer with excellent UV adsorbing properties providing a less impactful solution to many of the current UV additives used in industry. Common additives are known to cause damage to marine and freshwater ecosystems. In applications tested alongside cutting-edge textile treatment technology, we demonstrated UPF improvements of over 700%, reaching UPF factors of 50+ on treated textiles.

Cosmetics
Some traditional UV adsorbing chemicals used in sunblock and cosmetics are known to damage skin and the environment through bioaccumulation and overexposure. Our naturally derived LIGNO™ 100 can provide a biobased alternative to traditional chemistry.

LIGNOTM 1000
LIGNO™ 1000 is a suitable lignin fraction for the preparation of advanced high carbon content applications. This makes it an excellent choice for a renewable source of carbon within, carbon black, carbon fibre and battery anodes. LIGNO™ 1000 has a lower reactivity, making it an excellent choice in applications where stability is essential.
Request a SampleCarbon Fibre
Our LIGNO™ 1000 can provide a renewable carbon alternative to traditional oil based carbon fibre. Lignin has a low carbonisation temperature further reducing the potential impact of carbon fibre materials.

Battery Separators
With the global transition towards increased electrification, advanced battery technology requires lower impact solutions to improve the sustainability of the next generation of batteries. LIGNO™ 1000 can provide a renewable carbon alternative for battery separators.

Carbon Black
Carbon black is used as a colorant and reinforcing filler in tires and rubber products and as a pigment in plastics, inks and paints. Up to 70% of world carbon black production is used in tires for the automotive industry. LIGNO™1000 can provide a renewable alternative to fossil derived carbon black.

LIMATM
LIMA™ is a proprietary paper lignin formulation developed by Futurity to improve the performance of bitumen binders within asphalt surfacing. LIMA™ can improve temperature stability, moisture resistance, durability, fatigue and oxidation resistance of lignin modified bitumen binders. Integration of LIMA™ into bitumen can improve the performance and service-life of asphalt surfacing. LIMA™ can be used as a specialty additive to compete with traditional polymer modified bitumen (PMB) or can grade-bump softer grades bitumen to increase durability performance for heavy traffic loading applications.

METNIN™ SHIELD is a high performing additive in paper products, significantly increasing compression strength at high and low humidity levels. METNIN™ SHIELD is a 100% biobased paper additive which is certified re-pulpable, and FDA/EU approved for food contact applications. In paper and paperboard applications, METNIN™ SHIELD has been proven to provide a:
- 33% increase in compression strength, enabling higher strength and lighter packaging.
- 70% decrease in Cobb values, improving performance in high humidity environments.

LIGNOTM 10
LIGNO™ 10 is our smallest molecular weight lignin product. Due to the small particle size and high reactivity, LIGNO™ 10 can be used in speciality chemical applications leveraging many of the natural UV absorption and antimicrobial properties that trees have.
